Tree of Life for January

This painting was made in January as part of my Tree of Life series. The work depicts an evergreen tree, the symbol of everlasting life. There are sleeping creatures, waiting quietly for the year to begin and the seasons to change, and the herb yarrow makes up part of the mandal, a herb which thrives and flowers in winter. The original painting was made using highly pigmented water colours in a garnet shade chosen as garnet is the birth stone for January. I have used an ancient precious material called ‘shell gold’ for the interior mandala and the prized pigment ‘lapis lazuli’ can be found adorning the outer mandala.

This work is perfect to celebrate any special event in January but will bring joy to your home at any time of year.
